Direct-booking parity architecture
Wholesale rate leakage is how your cheapest room ends up on a third-party site for less than your own website charges. Parity architecture closes that gap, then uses the margin it protects to bid for guests on metasearch.
Where rate leakage comes from
A rate you set once rarely stays where you put it. Wholesalers and opaque-rate resellers repackage net rates, bundle them with flights, and publish them at prices your own site can’t match. Guests who see the lower price book there, and you pay a commission on a room you could have sold direct.
- Wholesale net rates loaded in good faith, then resold below your public rate.
- Package and mobile-only discounts that were meant for a closed user group but surface publicly.
- Stale rates after a price change, left live on a channel manager mapping.
- Direct-site friction: a booking engine that quotes the right price but loses the guest at checkout.
The parity table
Members audit every channel against a single source rate. Each row below is a rule we enforce and check on a schedule.
| Channel | Rate shown | Gap vs. direct | Action |
|---|---|---|---|
| Brand website | $214.00 | — | Source of truth |
| Booking.com | $214.00 | 0.0% | In parity |
| Expedia | $214.00 | 0.0% | In parity |
| Wholesale reseller | $189.00 | −11.7% | Pull contract rate; notify supplier |
| Metasearch (Google Hotel Ads) | $214.00 | 0.0% | Bid on direct link |
Metasearch bidding on Google Hotel Ads
Once rates agree, the direct link competes on equal terms in Google’s hotel results. You bid for placement; you pay when a guest clicks or books, depending on the campaign type. The question to ask is what you can afford to pay and still beat the OTA’s commission.
max bid = ADR × stay length × (OTA commission − direct cost) × click-to-book rate
For a $214 night, a two-night stay, a 20% OTA commission, 6% direct cost and a 3% click-to-book rate, the ceiling is about $214 × 2 × 0.14 × 0.03 ≈ $1.80 per click. Bid under that and every direct booking still beats the OTA one.
